Unilever Bangladesh Extends Aid to Waste Workers in Chattogram

In response to recent unrest that has disrupted the ability of waste workers to perform their duties, Unilever Bangladesh Limited (UBL) has swiftly launched an emergency humanitarian initiative to support over 2,100 waste workers across 41 wards in Chattogram.

The unrest has posed significant economic challenges for these workers, prompting UBL to take immediate action. In collaboration with its development partner, Young Power in Social Action (YPSA), UBL has begun disbursing financial aid to these workers, ensuring that they receive the necessary support during this difficult period.

Since 2022, UBL has been at the forefront of the country’s largest municipal-backed plastic waste management initiative. This project not only focuses on environmental sustainability but also on enhancing the livelihoods of the waste workers involved. The financial aid, which began distribution on August 1, is a crucial part of UBL’s commitment to the well-being of the 2,100 workers engaged in the initiative.

In addition to the emergency aid, the project continues to operate on a limited scale, allowing workers to maintain some level of income during these challenging times. UBL remains dedicated to driving impactful support initiatives, striving to build an empowering and environmentally responsible future for Bangladesh.
