Dr. Ahmed highlighted that respecting human rights is not only a moral obligation but also a catalyst for improved business performance. Addressing the conference’s opening session, Dr. Ahmed delivered a speech titled “Respect for Human Rights: A Tool for Business Development and Progress,” elucidating the critical role of prioritizing human rights in cultivating an ethical business environment.
In addition to advocating for the integration of human rights into business operations, Dr. Ahmed discussed Bangladesh’s shifting economic landscape. He drew attention to the country’s transition from agriculture to industry and the accompanying human rights challenges, including unfair labor practices, hazardous workplaces, and violence against workers.
Proposing actionable solutions to address these challenges, Dr. Ahmed called for the establishment of robust standards and outlined guidelines for fostering safer and healthier work environments. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts from both governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to safeguard workers’ rights.
The conference, chaired by Maryam Al Attiyah, President of GANHRI, centered on the role of national human rights institutions in promoting human rights within the business sector. Among the distinguished attendees were Salim Reza, a full-time member of NHRC, and Kazi Arfan Ashik, Director of Administration and Finance.
