UCB PLC Hosts Skill Development Training for Agricultural Entrepreneurs in Rajshahi

A skill development training program was held today at Shah Dine Community Center in Rajshahi city. Organized by United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) under its agricultural support scheme 'Bhoroshar Notun Janala,' the training catered to 240 agricultural entrepreneurs from nine upazilas of the district.

This initiative, in line with directives from Bangladesh Bank, reflects UCB’s commitment to enhancing the skills of promising agricultural entrepreneurs across various districts as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.

Rup Ratan Pine, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Rajshahi office, attended the event as the chief guest, with Shah Alam Bhuiyan, Deputy Managing Director of UCB PLC, presiding. Special guests included ATM Tahmiduzzaman, Additional Managing Director of UCB PLC, and Rezaul Karim Siddique, presenter of BTV’s agriculture-based show ‘Mati O Manush’ and an agricultural analyst.

The event also saw the presence of distinguished guests such as Bangladesh Bank’s Additional Director Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Umme Salma, District Livestock Officer Dr. Fazle Rabbi, and District Fisheries Officer Jahangir Alam.

ATM Tahmiduzzaman highlighted the importance of such training programs, noting that they are crucial for equipping agricultural entrepreneurs with up-to-date knowledge, advice, and skills. He emphasized that enhancing the efficiency of farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs is essential for ensuring the country’s food security.

“We are delighted to take up this initiative for agri-entrepreneurs. Through this program, they will learn about modern farming methods and various funding options,” he stated.

Tahmiduzzaman also noted that UCB PLC has implemented several initiatives under its ‘Bhoroshar Notun Janala’ project to support farmers. These initiatives include planting various tree species, training agricultural entrepreneurs, distributing smart agro-devices such as the AI-driven ‘Aro Maas (MoreFish)’ device, promoting maize farming as an alternative to tobacco, installing lightning arresters for protection against lightning, and distributing food production machinery free of cost in different regions of the country.

This training program is a testament to UCB PLC’s dedication to supporting and empowering agricultural entrepreneurs, contributing to sustainable agricultural development and the overall growth of the sector.
