UN Scales Up Life-Saving Aid in Cyclone-Hit Bangladesh with Major Funding Boost
The United Nations in Bangladesh has initiated a significant expansion of emergency relief efforts in areas devastated by Cyclone Remal, buoyed by a recent allocation of US$ 7.5 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) on June 3, 2024. Cyclone Remal made landfall on May 26, wreaking havoc across several districts including Khulna, Barguna, Patuakhali, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Bhola, and Pirojpur. The CERF funding aims to aid approximately 650,000 people in these severely affected regions.
