Bangladesh’s EIS Pilot Expands to Cover Commuting Accidents in RMG Sector

Bangladesh’s Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) pilot program in the readymade garment (RMG) sector will now classify commuting incidents to and from factories as workplace accidents, making them eligible for compensation starting from July 1. This decision, made by the EIS Governance Board—which includes employers, government officials, and worker representatives—also ensures that around 75 workers who filed commuting accident claims since the pilot’s launch in June 2022 will receive retroactive compensation.
