The training, dubbed ‘Bhoroshar Notun Janala’ and organized by United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative under Bangladesh Bank’s directive, aimed to equip 200 selected agri-entrepreneurs from various upazilas of Gazipur with essential skills. Topics covered included business planning, marketing strategies, managerial expertise, and financial literacy pertinent to agricultural ventures.
During the event, State Minister Simeen Hussain (Rimi) MP highlighted the pivotal role of both farmers and youth in shaping the nation’s agricultural landscape, emphasizing the necessity for proper guidance. Abul Alam Ferdous, additional managing director of UCB PLC, expressed optimism that their CSR endeavor would foster trust among agri-entrepreneurs, facilitating sustainable support for farming communities.
ATM Tahmiduzzaman, UCB’s additional managing director, underscored the importance of providing farmers and agri-entrepreneurs with accurate information to propel the country towards food security. UCB’s CSR project, ‘Bhoroshar Notun Janala,’ aims to empower entrepreneurs nationwide by offering essential resources and knowledge.
This groundbreaking initiative marks the first time a commercial bank in Bangladesh has directly supported the agricultural sector, signaling a significant step towards uplifting farmers. Activities such as tree plantation, smart device distribution, and research initiatives for climate-smart agricultural systems underline the project’s holistic approach to bolstering food and nutritional security among vulnerable communities.
