During the COVID-19 pandemic, the project donated epidemic prevention materials worth approximately 980,000 RMB to multiple villages along the rail line, Bangladeshi hospitals, the military, and police stations. Additionally, various branches of the project contributed materials worth about 1.33 million RMB, bringing the total donations to roughly 2.31 million RMB.
Annually, CREC organizes educational support activities, donating books and stationery and providing care for the children of Bangladeshi employees among other charitable endeavors.
To date, CREC has helped construct over 20 kilometers of local pathways, built a steel truss bridge over 100 meters long, and invested 303,000 USD in the long-term maintenance of the N805 road. They have also spent a total of 10 million Bangladeshi Taka to dig more than 200 wells for local residents.
In addition, CREC established the “China-Bangladesh Youth Employment Program,” funded by the project costs, contributions from outstanding CREC subcontractors, and support from prominent Bangladeshi enterprises. This program aims to create around 7,000 job opportunities for Bangladeshi youth, supporting the “Belt and Road” Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Empowerment Project. As of August 31, 2023, the program has employed 491 Bangladeshi management personnel (including four Bangladeshi students who studied in China) and 5,418 laborers through direct recruitment and intermediary company recommendations. Business training has been provided to 4,760 individuals, with 462 undergoing skills assessments, 320 competing for jobs, and 4,760 participating in labor competitions, successfully completing the first phase of the program.
