SWAPNO is a social transfer programme for ultra-poor women that manages the local government’s public works program. it allows them to work in a variety of occupations. Its goal is to enhance the economic and social lives of women in rural areas while also eradicating poverty.

Though encouraging employment, it emphasizes future employability and provides several job alternatives for severely poor rural women. SWAPNO (Strengthening Women’s Ability for Productive New Opportunities) provides job opportunities to rural women so that they can support their families.

For example, Marzina Begum had only Tk377 in her Almirah. She was at a loss on where to spend the money.

Then, She heard that in her area, Lalmonirhat, the local government division’s SWAPNO project was looking for employees. She immediately went to the Union Parishad and enrolled in the programme.

The partners of this ‘social transfer’ project are Marico Bangladesh, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and Sverige-Sweden, who basically finance the project. The government, on the other hand, executes, and local NGOs assist in monitoring the training and programme.
