Naser Ezaz Bijoy, the bank’s CEO; Bitopi Das Chowdhury, Standard Chartered Bangladesh’s country head of corporate affairs, brand and marketing; and Korvi Rakshand, executive director of Jaago Bangladesh, were among those present at the handover ceremony held at the bank’s head office recently.
“Our fight against Covid-19 has sadly left us behind in several sectors, where despite continued efforts we were at times obliged to accept a gradual rate of recovery,” stated Standard Chartered Bank CEO Naser Ezaz Bijoy.
“Education for disadvantaged children has been particularly harmed since they have been unable to engage in remote learning owing to a lack of affordable smart gadgets or laptops at home. We’ve started providing laptops to disadvantaged children as part of our effort to close this gap.”
The Jaago Foundation encourages students to use computers in their schooling and extracurricular activities. All of their students come from low-income families and are unable to acquire educational materials (laptops, smartphones).
Korvi Rakshand, the executive director of the Jaggo Foundation, stated, “The Pandemic showed us the value of technology. It is past time for us to become familiar with this new normal and begin incorporating technology into all aspects of our life, including schooling. We would like to express our gratitude to Standard Chartered Bank for stepping forward to support this cause and assisting Jaago in providing access to high-quality education.”
