Grameenphone, country’s largest mobile phone operator, will provide food assistance to 100,000 families in the most flood-affected districts across the country. In partnership with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), the operator will distribute the food stuffs as the recent flood in many parts in the country has made the on-ground reality even more challenging while Bangladesh has been fighting back to recover from the attack of COVID-19, said a press release. Each pack contains rice, sugar, salt, lentil and semolina which is expected to support a four-person family’s basic needs for a week, said a press release today.
On the occasion of food assistance support distribution announcement in a virtual ceremony, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md Enamur Rahman, MP said Bangladesh is facing an unprecedented challenge this year due to the current flood on top of the COVID-19 situation. He appreciated the flood relief initiative undertaken by Grameenphone and encouraged others in the private sector to come forward too as the flooding has severely affected millions of people and their houses were inundated around the country.
