UN Scales Up Life-Saving Aid in Cyclone-Hit Bangladesh with Major Funding Boost

The United Nations in Bangladesh has initiated a significant expansion of emergency relief efforts in areas devastated by Cyclone Remal, buoyed by a recent allocation of US$ 7.5 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) on June 3, 2024. Cyclone Remal made landfall on May 26, wreaking havoc across several districts including Khulna, Barguna, Patuakhali, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Bhola, and Pirojpur. The CERF funding aims to aid approximately 650,000 people in these severely affected regions.

FAO launches climate smart ‘ACCESS’ project in Bangladesh

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), launched the “Accelerating Economic and Social Inclusion through Strong Producers’ Organisations in Bangladesh ” (ACCESS) project in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Sara Bangla Krishak Society (SBKS),. BRAC and BRAC Bank Commit Taka 10 Crore for Cyclone Remal Relief and Rehabilitation

BRAC has pledged Taka 7 crore to the ‘Dakche Amar Desh’ (Bangladesh is Calling) relief fund, while BRAC Bank PLC has committed Taka 3 crore to support families affected by Cyclone Remal. The combined Taka 10 crore fund will be utilized for emergency cash support, allowing vulnerable families to secure essential food packages, rebuild homes, restore water sources, and reconstruct latrines, as stated in a BRAC press release.
