Brac Bank and Gram Unnayan Karma Forge Strategic Alliance to Empower Farmers

Brac Bank and Gram Unnayan Karma (GUK), a prominent non-government development organization, have strengthened their partnership to support marginalized farmers in the remote char areas of Dhunat, Bogura. This renewed collaboration, which is part of a specially designed corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to enhance agricultural productivity and economic self-sufficiency through the introduction of innovative agricultural technology and know-how.

The partnership will provide farmers in these remote regions with access to cutting-edge machinery and farming techniques, enabling them to increase the yield of high-value cash crops such as maize, jute, mustard, and green chili. This initiative marks a significant step toward promoting equitable economic growth and advancing the rural economy in Bangladesh.

Md Sabbir Hossain, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Brac Bank, and Khondaker Alamgir Hossain, Executive Director of Gram Unnayan Karma, signed the agreement at the bank’s head office in Dhaka on July 9, 2024. The ceremony was attended by key representatives from both organizations, including Syed Abdul Momen, Deputy Managing Director and Head of SME at Brac Bank, and other senior officials.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership with Gram Unnayan Karma, which will play a crucial role in boosting agricultural output in some of the most underserved regions of the country,” said Md Sabbir Hossain. “By equipping these farmers with advanced farming equipment and training, we aim to create sustainable markets and improve their standard of living.”

This partnership builds on the success of previous initiatives between the two organizations. Last year, Brac Bank and GUK collaborated to support 1,400 farmers in the char areas of Bogura, providing them with modern agricultural machinery, quality materials, and specialized training. The results were significant, with farmers reporting increased harvests and improved economic well-being.

The ongoing collaboration between Brac Bank and GUK underscores a shared commitment to fostering prosperity and self-sufficiency among smallholder farmers. By leveraging advanced technologies and smart agricultural practices, the partnership holds the potential for transformative growth and development in Bangladesh’s rural areas.

Syed Abdul Momen, Deputy Managing Director and Head of SME at Brac Bank, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in driving sustainable economic development. “This collaboration is not just about improving agricultural output; it is about empowering communities, creating opportunities, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey toward economic progress.”

As part of their CSR efforts, Brac Bank and Gram Unnayan Karma remain dedicated to enhancing the livelihoods of farmers in Dhunat, Bogura, and beyond, with the ultimate goal of fostering long-term economic resilience and growth in Bangladesh’s rural heartlands.
