The recent student-led uprising, which saw many brave individuals standing against discrimination, has been a pivotal moment in the country’s history. While the movement has brought about substantial changes, it has also resulted in numerous casualties, with several individuals losing their lives and thousands, primarily young students and other protesters, sustaining severe injuries.
The injured are currently receiving treatment in various government and private hospitals across the country. Although the interim government has pledged to cover their medical expenses, the severity of many injuries requires specialized medication and ongoing support. This has created an urgent need for additional resources to ensure proper treatment and recovery.
BRAC Bank’s initiative is further bolstered by a personal contribution from its independent directors, who have pledged their one-month honorarium to this cause. This collective effort underscores the bank’s commitment to social justice and equality, principles that have been central to the movement.
Selim RF Hussain, Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank, expressed the bank’s dedication to this cause, stating, “As a responsible corporate entity, we must stand by those who have fought for a fairer and more equitable society. The individuals who participated in the movement have demonstrated bravery in their quest for justice, and we are committed to supporting their recovery and well-being.”
The Tk 2 crore fund will be utilized to ensure that the injured receive the best possible care, highlighting BRAC Bank’s dedication to upholding the values of social justice, equality, and solidarity. This initiative is a testament to the bank’s ongoing efforts to break financial barriers and create opportunities for people to lead meaningful lives.
BRAC Bank’s CSR initiatives continue to focus on addressing social taboos, creating access to opportunities, and ensuring that individuals can realize their full potential in a just society. This latest contribution reaffirms the bank’s role as a values-driven institution committed to the well-being of the community.
